Tropicana Field

(May 2004) Home of the perennial last-place Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Tropicana Field is the first indoor facility the Rambler and the V.O. have visited. Talk about committing an unnatural act--watching baseball indoors in 72 degree air conditioned comfort. A quick 15 minute ride from St. Pete Beach, Tropicana is located in the quaint city of St. Petersburg, on Tampa Bay. We paid $9 to park approximately 150 feet from the gates. Two field level box seats were had for the grand total of $56, only $6 more than my grandstand seats in Section 32. The concession prices were no different than Fenway, but a much wider variety of eats, including the Outback Steak House. In the Dog Race, the all-beef Hebrew Nationals were fine, but they need to come up with a catchy name, like Fenway Franks, or Dodger Dogs. How about Tropicana Tube Steaks? Three dogs, a coke, a 24 oz brewski, and peanuts came to $26.00. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience. But I still like being in the great outdoors while watching a game.

Nice and new with great weather, too!

The Rambler with new friend, Larry, the “Ice Cold” programs, “Red Hot” scorecards, and “Frozen” yearbooks vendor. If you visit Tropicana, make sure you buy from Larry!!!

Plenty of convenient parking

Another old Friend, Scott Hatteberg, and the Oakland A’s homered their way to a 6-2 win.

They really pack ‘em in! The announced attendance was 10,268, but that was hard to believe. The Trop seats 43,000.

The V.O. checked out the menu. And you thought I was kidding about the Outback!
